Yale is the better choice if you want a wide range of smart lock types and a more developed app and integration ecosystem, while Godrej wins on service reach across Indian cities and long-standing brand trust. Smart locks from both brands generally start around ₹15,000 and climb past ₹30,000 for premium models.

Both brands are researched here only at range level, drawn from published feature lists and what owners say, and I have not fitted either myself. The things you must verify are your door's thickness, whether it takes a mortise or cylindrical body, and which authorised technician will actually fit it in your city.

Prices below are approximate and can change during sales, so check the live price on Amazon before you buy.

Quick Pick: Yale for features and variety, Godrej for service coverage; expect roughly ₹15,000-35,000. Check smart door locks on Amazon.

Who they are

Yale is a global lock brand with a strong digital range in India: fingerprint, PIN, RFID card, app and key backup, with several form factors. Godrej is an Indian giant in locks and security, with its Advantis and Catus smart lock ranges, plus huge name recognition.

Range and lock types

Yale offers a spread: mortise-based smart locks for modern doors, rim locks for older doors, and retrofit options that sit on an existing deadbolt. This breadth is a real advantage if your door is not standard.

Godrej concentrates on digital locks for main doors, often with multiple unlocking modes, including fingerprint, PIN, card, and app on connected models. It has options for both new installations and replacements.

Features and app

Yale's higher-end locks offer app control, temporary guest codes, access logs, and in some models integration with voice assistants. The ecosystem is more mature for remote access.

Godrej offers solid core features, with an app on connected models, and its focus is reliable locking rather than smart-home integration. Fewer models integrate with assistants.

Service and installation

This is where Godrej shines. It has a large service network in India, and many buyers find it easier to get a technician quickly, including in smaller cities.

Yale has an installation network too, but coverage varies by region. Check before buying that a technician can visit your area, because incorrect installation is the leading cause of smart lock problems.

1. Yale smart lock range

Roughly ₹15,000-35,000. Choose Yale if you want a fingerprint and PIN lock with remote access, guest codes, and a choice of form factors. It suits modern apartments with a standard door.

The trade-off is that connected features sometimes depend on a gateway or Bluetooth range, and service can be uneven outside metros. See Yale smart lock.

2. Godrej Advantis and Catus ranges

Roughly ₹15,000-30,000. Choose Godrej if you want a trusted brand with easy service, multi-mode unlocking, and sturdy build. It suits families who want reliability over gadgets.

The limit is that app and integration features are less developed on some models. Browse Godrej digital door lock.

Security and emergency access

Both brands include a mechanical key or emergency power access. Check how to power the lock if batteries die: many have a 9V battery terminal outside. Check also that fingerprint sensors are capacitive rather than optical, since they resist spoofing better and handle dry or damp fingers well.

Battery life varies: expect several months on four AA cells, depending on use. Keep a spare set of batteries, and never rely on the lock without a backup key.

Door and install reality

Smart locks need a door thick enough for the body, and a proper mortise cut-out. Heavy teak doors in older Indian homes may need modification. Some locks need drilling that cannot be undone. Ask the technician to inspect before buying, and keep spare lithium AA batteries at home. See door lock installation tools only if you plan a DIY retrofit.

Smart home compatibility

If you use Alexa or Google Home, check that the specific model supports it. Many locks do not integrate unless you buy a gateway. See smart lock Wi-Fi gateway.

Who should skip a smart lock

Skip a smart lock if your door is warped, your building has frequent power fluctuation without backup, or if you rarely have guests and trust metal keys. A good mechanical lock costs a fraction.

Recommendation

Choose Yale if you want more form factors, a polished app and remote access. Choose Godrej if service availability and brand trust matter most, especially outside the metros. Whichever you pick, confirm door compatibility and a local installer before ordering.
