Work-from-home professionals have two very different worlds of headphones to choose from: consumer ANC headphones like the Sony WH-1000XM5, and professional UC-certified headsets like the Jabra Evolve2 55. Both solve the WFH audio problem — but differently.

Overview

The Jabra Evolve2 55 is a professional wireless headset certified for Microsoft Teams and Zoom, with a boom microphone that delivers broadcast-quality call clarity and a dedicated call control unit. The Sony WH-1000XM5 is the best consumer ANC headphone with excellent call mics built into the earcups — designed primarily for music and focus, secondarily for calls.

Quick Comparison

| Feature | Jabra Evolve2 55 | Sony WH-1000XM5 | |---|---|---| | Mic Type | Retractable boom mic | 4 built-in beamforming mics | | Call Quality | Professional-grade | Very good (consumer-grade) | | UC Certification | Teams, Zoom, Cisco | No certification | | ANC | Good | Best-in-class | | Music Quality | Good | Excellent | | Battery | 37 hrs | 30 hrs | | Wireless | BT 5.0 + USB-A dongle | BT 5.2 + 3.5mm | | Price (India) | ₹35,000–₹40,000 | ₹29,990 |

Call Quality — The Critical Difference

This is what separates them. The Jabra Evolve2 55's retractable boom microphone is placed close to your mouth — the standard for call centre and enterprise audio for decades. When the boom is deployed, your voice sounds clear, natural, and professional even in noisy home environments. Colleagues notice immediately.

The Sony WH-1000XM5's built-in mics are excellent for a consumer headphone — better than most earbuds and many headsets. But in a noisy home (kids, street noise, AC), the Sony struggles to isolate voice as cleanly as the Jabra's boom mic. Your voice sounds slightly distant.

For people on calls 4+ hours per day: this difference is significant. For occasional calls (1–2 per day): Sony is more than adequate.

ANC for Focus

Sony wins clearly on ANC. The WH-1000XM5 blocks out ambient noise better than the Jabra Evolve2 55 — for deep focus work between calls, this matters.

The Jabra's ANC is good (8 mics working together) but is tuned to balance call monitoring with noise reduction — it's not as aggressive as Sony's in pure listening mode.

Music Quality

Sony WH-1000XM5 is the far better music headphone — richer sound, wider soundstage, LDAC Hi-Res support. The Jabra Evolve2 55 is a workday headset that handles music adequately but isn't designed for it.

If you listen to music for hours between calls: Sony. If you need max professional call quality and music is secondary: Jabra.

Platform Integration

The Jabra Evolve2 55 offers Teams/Zoom-native controls — answer calls, mute, volume, and call status LEDs work natively with the included USB dongle. Colleagues can see your busy light when you're on a call.

Sony has no such platform integration — you press a button on the earcup to answer calls, and Teams doesn't know your headphone's mute status.

Pros & Cons

Jabra Evolve2 55

Pros: Boom mic delivers professional call quality, UC platform certification, longer 37-hour battery, busy light indicator, USB dongle for lower latency Cons: Significantly more expensive, less impressive music quality, ANC not as strong as Sony, larger/less fashionable

Sony WH-1000XM5

Pros: Best ANC available, excellent music quality, LDAC Hi-Res audio, more comfortable for all-day wear, better value, fashionable Cons: Call mic quality inferior to boom mic headsets in noisy environments, no platform certification, no busy light

Pricing in India (2026)

  • Jabra Evolve2 55: ₹35,000–₹40,000
  • Sony WH-1000XM5: ₹29,990 (often ₹24,000–₹27,000 on deals)

Who Should Buy Which?

Buy the Jabra Evolve2 55 if:

  • You're on calls 4+ hours per day
  • Your employer/clients expect crystal-clear call audio
  • You use Teams or Zoom professionally
  • Company budget covers the headset

Buy the Sony WH-1000XM5 if:

  • You value music quality and ANC equally
  • Calls are occasional (1–2 per day)
  • Budget matters (₹5,000–₹10,000 savings)
  • You commute and need one headphone for everything

Final Verdict

For professional call quality: Jabra Evolve2 55 — the boom mic is simply better for video calls, and the platform certification is a real workflow advantage.

For everything else: Sony WH-1000XM5 — it's a better all-round headphone that happens to handle calls well enough for most WFH professionals. The ₹10,000 savings is meaningful too.

If your primary use case is calls: invest in the Jabra. If you also want great music and focus work: the Sony is the smarter buy.
