For most buyers in India the iPad Air, roughly ₹60,000 to ₹80,000, is the better value over the iPad Pro, which starts around ₹1,00,000, unless you specifically need the OLED display, the fastest chip or the Pro-grade video and audio features.
This comparison is researched from Apple's published specifications, not hands-on tested. Before buying, check which accessories you need, because the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil add roughly ₹20,000 to ₹45,000 on top of either iPad, and that often changes the real cost of the decision.
Prices below are approximate and can change during sales, so check the live price on Amazon before you buy.
Quick Pick: Buy the iPad Air with 256 GB and an Apple Pencil, roughly ₹70,000 to ₹90,000 in total, unless you edit video or want the best screen, in which case the Pro earns its premium. See iPad Air on Amazon.
The display is the biggest visible difference
The iPad Pro uses a tandem OLED panel with 120 Hz ProMotion, extreme contrast and very high HDR brightness. The iPad Air uses a Liquid Retina LCD at 60 Hz that is bright, colour accurate and very good, but cannot show true blacks. For watching films, editing HDR video or drawing with the Apple Pencil, the Pro's screen is clearly better, and ProMotion makes scrolling and pen strokes feel smoother. For reading, browsing, study and Netflix, most people will be happy with the Air.
Chip and memory: more than most people need
The Pro carries Apple's newer, faster M-series chip, and the 1 TB and 2 TB configurations come with 16 GB of RAM against 8 GB for the lower trims and the Air. This matters for heavy Final Cut Pro, Logic or 4K video projects, big layered Procreate files and running several pro apps. For note-taking, drawing, school and office tasks the Air's M-series chip is plenty fast, and it will last years.
1. iPad Air: worth it for most students and creators
The Air comes in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes, supports Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil USB-C, and works with the Magic Keyboard on current models. It has Touch ID in the top button, a USB-C port and a landscape front camera that suits video calls. Compare iPad Air 13 inch if you want a bigger canvas. The trade-offs are 60 Hz, a thicker bezel and less storage headroom if you buy the base 128 GB, so consider 256 GB.
2. iPad Pro: worth it for video, music and the best screen
The Pro adds Face ID, a Thunderbolt or USB4 port for fast external drives and displays, a four-speaker audio system, a LiDAR scanner and a thinner chassis. Videographers using fast SSDs and external monitors benefit directly. The cost is steep at roughly ₹1,00,000 for the 11-inch and more for the 13-inch. See iPad Pro 11 inch.
Accessories: the cost nobody mentions
A tablet seldom works alone. The Apple Pencil Pro costs roughly ₹12,000, the USB-C Pencil roughly ₹8,000, and the Magic Keyboard roughly ₹30,000 or more, with the Pro and Air using different sizes. A cheaper third-party keyboard works for typing but lacks the trackpad feel. Consider a keyboard case for iPad Air if you want a budget option, and a paper-like screen protector if you draw.
Storage choices
Base storage fills up quickly with offline movies, large Procreate files and video clips. The Pro starts at 256 GB, the Air at 128 GB. A cloud plan like iCloud+ fixes backups but not offline needs. If you use external drives, a USB-C SSD works with either iPad.
Which one should you buy
Choose the Air if you are a student, a note-taker, a casual illustrator, a reader or someone replacing an older iPad. Choose the Pro if you edit 4K video, produce music, work with colour-critical HDR content or simply want the best screen and plan to keep the iPad for six years. Consider the base iPad too, since it handles most tasks at about half the price.
Who should skip the iPad Pro
Skip the Pro if your main uses are reading, YouTube, notes and light drawing, because the extra ₹30,000 to ₹40,000 buys features you will rarely notice. Skip it if you want a laptop replacement and have not tried iPadOS multitasking; a MacBook Air may serve you better. Skip it if you worry about damage: the thin body and high price make repairs painful. If you lose items often, add AppleCare or similar cover.
Recommendation
The iPad Air with 256 GB is the sensible choice for most Indian buyers. Pick the iPad Pro only when OLED, ProMotion or heavy creative work will make a daily difference. Start with this iPad Air 11 inch search and compare it with the Pro.
