Check built-in combi steam ovens on Amazon

A built-in combi-steam oven from Bosch, Siemens, Faber, Elica or Hafele, typically priced around ₹60,000-1,50,000, is the best choice if you want one appliance that steams idli and vegetables, bakes bread and reheats leftover rice without drying it out. It earns its place in a modular kitchen where cooking is varied and daily, not in a kitchen where the oven comes out twice a month.

Cut-out sizes and steam features below are researched from brand catalogues and Amazon India listings, not hands-on use. Before you order anything, measure your tall-unit niche, because a 60 cm wide, 45 cm high compact unit and a full 60 cm high oven need different cut-outs and the carpenter cannot fix a wrong choice later.

Prices below are approximate and can change during sales, so check the live price on Amazon before you buy.

Quick Pick: Choose a compact (45 cm high) built-in combi-steam oven from Bosch or Siemens, roughly ₹80,000-1,30,000, if your kitchen has a spare niche above a coffee machine or below a microwave. Browse built-in steam ovens on Amazon.

What steam does that a normal oven cannot

A convection oven dries the surface of food. A combi-steam oven adds water vapour, which is why it can revive day-old parathas, bake bread with a proper crust, steam fish or momos without a pot, and reheat dal-chawal so it tastes closer to fresh. For an Indian household that cooks daily and reheats a lot, that reheating job is the real everyday use, more than the glamorous baking.

There are two designs. A pure steam oven only steams, usually at 100 degrees Celsius or a little above, and costs less. A combi-steam oven mixes steam with hot-air baking, grill or convection modes. If you also want to bake, buy the combi type. Pure steamers are a niche purchase that mostly suits people who already own a separate oven.

1. Bosch built-in combi-steam range

Bosch's built-in steam and combi ovens are the most commonly discussed in Indian modular-kitchen forums. Expect roughly ₹90,000-1,50,000 depending on the series, with touch or dial control, automatic programmes and a removable water tank. The attraction is German build and a decent service network in metros. The trade-off is the price and the fact that spares and technician visits in smaller cities can take days. Compare Bosch steam ovens.

2. Siemens built-in steam oven

Siemens sits in the same group as Bosch and is aimed at buyers who want a more premium finish and more programmes. Pricing in India generally starts above Bosch's entry units. If your kitchen shutters are glossy or matte black glass, the dark glass front of a Siemens unit tends to blend in better. Choose it for looks and extra features, not because the cooking itself is dramatically better. See Siemens steam ovens.

3. Faber and Elica built-in combi ovens

Faber and Elica are the practical options for buyers who want a built-in steam-capable oven closer to ₹60,000-90,000 and who already buy their chimney and hob from the same brand for a matching finish. Their catalogues change often, so verify whether a given unit is a true steam model or only a convection oven with a steam-assist tray, because the listing titles can be vague. Browse Faber built-in ovens.

4. Hafele and Kaff built-in steam options

Hafele and Kaff cater to the modular-kitchen channel, and their steam ovens usually come through dealers and kitchen designers as well as Amazon. They are worth a look if your designer has already specified a Hafele hob and hood. Ask about installation scope in writing, since some dealers include the cut-out check and some do not. Check Hafele steam ovens.

The water tank and Indian hard water

Most built-in steam ovens in this segment use a refillable tank, often around 1 litre or a little more, and a 30 to 40 minute steaming session can use most of it. Plumbed-in water connections exist on premium models but are rare in Indian flats.

Hard water is the real running problem. Tap water with high TDS leaves limescale on the steam generator, and descaling is a monthly or two-monthly job in many cities. Use filtered RO water where you can, run the descale programme when the oven prompts, and keep descaling tablets or citric-acid solution recommended by the brand on hand. Ignoring this is the most common reason steam ovens develop faults after the first year. Descaling products for steam ovens.

Power, niche and installation

Many built-in ovens draw around 2.5 to 3 kW at peak, so ask your electrician for a dedicated 16 A line with its own MCB, not a shared socket from the chimney point. Keep the ventilation gaps the manual specifies, which are normally at the back and top of the niche.

Check the door swing and handle clearance against the adjacent drawer, and confirm the height from the floor. Putting a steam oven at eye level is more comfortable and safer with hot trays than putting it under the hob. Oven-safe steamer trays and accessories.

Who should skip a built-in steam oven

If you mostly bake cakes and microwave leftovers, a good convection microwave at ₹15,000 to 25,000 does most of what you need, and a freestanding countertop steam oven gives you steaming without a niche. A built-in unit also commits you to a wall cut-out, so it makes little sense for rented homes. If your kitchen has no spare niche and your budget is under ₹60,000, a combination of an air fryer and a pressure cooker is the more honest answer.

The recommendation

For a new modular kitchen with a budget around ₹80,000-1,30,000, shortlist a compact Bosch or Siemens combi-steam oven and confirm the niche size before the carpenter starts. If the budget is tighter and you want matching finish with your hob and chimney, look at Faber or Elica. Whichever you choose, plan for RO water in the tank and a monthly descale reminder. Compare countertop steam ovens if you do not have a niche.
